Orchard Skateshop stands as a cherished cornerstone of Boston’s skateboarding scene, and our friendship with them spans over a decade. It was Orchard who generously provided INDIVIDUALS with our inaugural opportunity to host an art show in our hometown of Boston. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of constructing five distinct retail spaces for them across the city.

Each build has served as a platform for experimentation, allowing us to explore unconventional retail environments through mechanical window displays, tranquil water features, and dynamic lighting installations. This trust gave us the freedom to realize imaginative concepts—most memorably a colossal bird’s nest that housed an indoor skate bowl.

The most recent Orchard location pushed this approach even further, blurring the boundary between exterior and interior. We set out to bring the grit, energy, and improvisational spirit of the city’s skate scene indoors. The space was transformed into a forest of custom shoe-display trees, punctuated by a functioning phone booth, telephone poles with live lighting, and a living moss sign. At its core, Orchard’s iconic bird logo was reimagined as a projector, casting motion and atmosphere throughout the shop.

Across every location, our collaboration with Orchard has been rooted in shared curiosity and mutual trust—using architecture, art, and storytelling to create spaces that feel less like stores and more like environments shaped by skate culture itself.
